The Harm Reduction Branch is actively responding to a congenital syphilis outbreak on the Big Island by ramping up DOH resources for patients, providers, and the community. To better connect with the local demographic, I conducted field research and discovered that the print material in the area leans towards a more artistic/organic style rather than corporate one. Therefore, I opted for this approach to ensure our material would resonate with the community. Additionally, I used color hues that instill a sense of calm and serenity, departing from the usual corporate or medical feel. To inspire strength and beauty among pregnant women, I created an illustration featuring a powerful, pregnant woman influenced by the goddess Pele, who embodies these qualities.
